Plus according to Cliff on the Blu-ray.com forums today, Halloween 4 and 5 will have its original Stereo mixes included! 4 is sourced from the laserdisc while 5 is sourced from the Mag track (the original 5.1 DVD remixes will also be included).

He also stated that sadly, the Criterion commentary track for Halloween couldn't be included as said company wouldn't allow Scream to add it.

I'll be happy to see Mikey's uncut death from Part 5. There was always an awkward edit right after that mini-pitchfork smacks him in the forehead.

I'll also be happy to have Part 4 with the correct audio. I missed the replacement disc when the box set first came out, and have suffered though bad syncing for seven years.

I don't know the quality of the H5 cuts but it's a shame they couldn't incorporate them back into the film.

I watched H5 this evening, I've not seen this since its original release and then it was a poor quality bootleg.

I've got to say wow, what a piece of shit, there really are no redeeming qualities from the awful DTV feel, the absurd story and some questionable choices made. For example:

The shape spends a year essentially on a guy's couch, he's not hooked up to any monitors or anything just on his couch, why didn't he call an ambulance?

The 3 stooges style sound effects that play when the 2 cops are on screen, why? It really took me out of the movie.

Loomis is creepy, nobody really knows who he is but them seem ok with him assaulting Danielle's character, he could be a pedo, but hey who cares it's the 80's right.

I'm suprised they ever made anymore after this car crash. Good for me I own the UK blu which is now rare so hopefully I should make my money back on this, especially with the new movie round the corner.

I agree. It is atrocious. The series basically ends at 4 with me.

I think your gonna be disappointed with Mikeys uncut scene, I watched this tonight and for me it looked choppy when he's twitching on the ground like it was edited.

I then read IMDB and they note the MPAA cut was because he was twitching for too long, so by the sounds of it, the impact will be the same just additional twitching.

Too me, part 4 was pretty mediocre as well, compared to the first two.
I hate the different mask, that almost makes him look like a stupid clown. And the characters are the typically annoying ones, that we got in most horror movies, in the late 80:s.
And for fucks sake, Myers got his eyes shot out, and burned together with Loomis. Not a chance in hell that Loomis survived that, with just a small burn on his face.
Same with Myers. The last shot of him in part 2, he is basically becoming BBQ.

I really shouldn't ask for logic in these films, but come on :D

I'm just gonna upgrade the first 3 movies on UHD.

I agree 4 was bad, but it's a masterpiece compared to the 5th!!!

I like 1, 2 & 3. I've not seen the 6th Producer cut but I'm not in a hurry too, to be quite honest. Enjoyed H20, will have to re-visit that see if it stacks up and then I'm happy to ignore the other sequels and remakes until the 2019 version.

4 and 5 are the only two I'm interested in upgrading. The boxset is good enough for 1 - 3.

The old Anchor Bay blu of 4 has a horrible dated transfer. I think it's the same transfer as the DiviMax DVD and it doesn't look any better than the DVD. This should be a huge upgrade. As far as I'm concerned, this is its hi-def debut.

5 is my favorite of the sequels. It is by far the most fun. The Tower Farm sequence is fantastic and one of the best set-pieces in the entire franchise. I also love Tina, Cookie Woman, clown-shoe cops, revisionist Myers house, and more. All that, coupled with the uncovered footage, makes this one an easy upgrade for me.

I sold my steelbook blu rays to help pay for the new 4ks- so getting 1-5. 1-3 are great of course and Ive always really enjoyed 4. part 5 is a dip in the wrong direction but still watchable for me.

I want Return to Salem's lot, but I also don't want to pay $25 for a bare bones release, either. What are the odds that a UK label will put this title out in the near future?

I think it's highly unlikely to be honest, there are bigger Cohen films not release in UK like Q Wing and the it's alive series.

I think your best hope is for a German release, there is an area I think could be a possibility.

The major issue I've always had with Halloween 5 is the continuity. All of the sudden, Michael's childhood home is a Gothic mansion. Did Michael's family move during his first years? Or did the makers simply expect that we'd forgotten the Myers house as seen in the first two? Beyond that, it's a perfectly enjoyable slasher. Definitely not on par with the earlier installments in the franchise, but with some fairly suspenseful scenes. Halloween and Halloween II are easily my favorites of the franchise, but Halloween 4 still has some good scares, and the gas station scene is pretty darn exciting. I do agree with @Steel76 that the mask is ugly. But hey, Halloween II makes it clear that the original mask is destroyed, and 10 years later, it's entirely likely that that specific mask was no longer available in shops, so Michael had to steal a cheap knock-off.

Long story short: I'm super excited about the prospect of getting these on UHD. Halloween: Resurrection would be where I draw the line. That movie is as charmless as they come.

    Agree on all accounts

Resurrection is absolute dog shit. I enjoy all other entries. Part 3 particularly has really grown on me throughout the years. I think this Halloween day I'm gonna watch parts 1-2-3 to get the day going.....

I find Season of the Witch to be an odd bird, not only in the context of the franchise, but also in its own right. There are a few improbabilities that require some real suspension of disbelief. Cochran's masks can't be the only masks on the market, and it would soon be obvious that only Cochran's masks turns kids' faces into vermin. If he's such a mastermind, surely he wouldn't have come up with such a faulty evil plan. Also, when exactly is Ellie replaced with a robot? She helps sabotage Cochran, escapes with Atkins' character, and then all of a sudden, she attacks him. Cochran has nothing to gain from them escaping, so the only explanation is that the writer or director wanted to squeeze in one final jolt.

That said, the movie has Tom Atkins, tons of atmosphere, and the opening act is effectively scary. I like Season of the Witch, but I also have to be in the right (i.e. forgiving) frame of mind for it.

    Oh yeah, totally.

Most of my favorite horror flicks require some form of suspension of disbelief lol

Lol, it's true. H5 is a stinker. Last time I tried watching it I think I turned it off. It was a real chore. I agree with a lot of the points you and others have made about it.

The music with the cops is beyond weird and doesn't fit at all.
Loomis is no more than a crazy man that they had the audacity to make unlikable as he screams and shakes poor Jamie. Too be fair they ruined Jamie too. Her being mute and making wheezing and desperate faces doesn't work at all for me either. I get the theory but the execution makes me hate her.

The whole hermit thing at the start is just an odd choice that doesn't make sense either. A whole year passes and the hermit doesn't think to get rid of the body. He's not feeding and washing the guy so you'd think the hermit would go "oh he must be dead".

Gothic mansion Myers. You need to explain that shit if you're going to turn an ordinary suburban house into something completely different.

The other really big thing that bugs me is that Jamie's sister and her friend are just living pretty normally after the trauma the year (just one year) before. And on top of that they're happy to go out and party on Halloween. I don't think so.

    H5 is a complete mess.

I'm not as big a H4 fan as some seem to be. I don't love the new mask but at least they explain it's origin unlike it's complete change for no logical reason in H5.
They also explain Loomis had numerous skin grafts but I agree that he and Myers coming out of that fire in the shape they're in makes little to no sense.

As for the latter sequels, I'll add I'm in what I assume would be a minority who enjoys Resurrection more than H20.

You may have a point about the Ellie bot, but I don’t think Cochran had any intention of living long beyond the fruition of his plan, one way or the other. He was an old man. The point of it all was it to be a sort of ritual sacrifice and one huge trick on everybody. It’s an insane plan so I don’t expect there to be a logical way for him to escape blame. He probably wanted the credit.
