You're in luck! Synapse is releasing it and I'm betting it gets steelbook treatment.

I'd actually be a bit surprised if it did get a steelbook honestly, but I wouldn't complain if it did. This is going to be a day one pre-order for me, whatever the release ends up being.

They did it for Popcorn. That's all I'm saying.

That's what I was thinking, and am hoping. Was Popcorn more requested than Kindred?

Looks like the BD finally has a release date and a pre-order (from Synapse for $49.95 and from Diabolik for $46.99). Release date is 12/14. The art on the left is the slipcover.

    These fucking overpriced steelbooks again...

At that price, he should have included a UHD disc.

Great news, but $50??! Jesus. Diabolik still charges you $5 shipping on top of that - lol.

Another steelbook rip-off. I have never bought a Synapse steelbook and I never will. I bought the standard releases. Lately they tried to persuade us to buy these overpriced steelbooks by raising the number of pressed discs and not offering standard releases. The result is that I did not buy anything.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying how they keep doing this. I'm mildly interested in this one but there's no way I would consider paying $50 for this movie, I'm curious to revisit it because the only thing I remember about watching it on VHS is not thinking much of it.

Yeah fuck off with your Steelbook, DVD and soundtrack and 50 dollar charge.

I'll wait for standard or a release in UK or Germany.

As much as I hate this steelbook nonsense, I'm still waiting on a standard blu-ray of Massacre At Central High and that release is going on a year old now.

So I went ahead and sprang for it as opposed to waiting another year.

The package looks awesome and I love the slip cover art, but I agree about the price. Fuck that. I fucking hate Synapse's release model.

Not going to lie, ordered Kindred immediately. Can't wait. Love my Demons SteelBooks too. I get the price issue, but I am not going 4k with these anyway. I already feel bluray is a bit much for the fx in some of the older titles, so that helps my decision making process. Plus, it's the Kindred!! So many people want to see this released and it is now getting the Synapse treatment. Poised to being the release of the year based on that alone. Though I do expect a delay into the new year.

Agreed, I wish they would stop doing this crap. Or at least just do the LE and a Standard right at the same time.

Having said that though, I'll pre-order it... I've been waiting forever for this to come out, and I doubt the standard release will come out anytime too soon.

They can fuck right off with these $50 steelbook releases as far as I'm concerned. They said on Facebook they have no plans to release a standard version so I guess I'm waiting to see if their plans change.

They always say that though, so people will go ahead and get the LE.

I just got a shipment email + tracking from CAV marked as "kindred" — so if you ordered direct from Synapse it should be shipping soon.

It's Media Mail though, so I doubt it arrives too quickly...

I received it in the mail yesterday from Synapse/CAV, packed within a cardboard box + bubble wrap.

Here's some pics... just click on the thumbnails for larger ones:

The transfer looks quite good based on a brief scan through it...

Edit: I just watched the Blu-ray and the transfer looks great. Good detail and strong colors. No complaints. I decided to listen to the 5.1 mix, and that sounded really good. It sounded very natural and not overdone. There is very little action from the rear speakers in the mix. It just sounds more "Stereo" than the original Mono mix of the film, and that really helps the excellent music score more than anything.

The making-of documentary was very well done, running at close to an hour in length. Jeffrey Obrow, Stephen Carpenter, John Penney, Earl Ghaffari, Matthew Mungle, Michael McCracken, David Allen Brooks, Amanda Pays all appear in it, so it's always interesting and informative.

I still need to listen to the audio commentary and read the included booklet. I see it has a full page on the restoration and "why" it took 15+ years to finally come out...
