Basically, a thread to give you ideas for the upcoming Annual October Thread. That time of year is coming...

Normally, I start around August 15th (or sometimes September 1st). Since there are some notables coming this weekend, not to mention it is a Friday The 13th, we'll be starting a little early.

Also, instead of dumping everything here all at once, I will be going month by month this year. So September will be added as the month gets closer, and same goes for October.

    AUGUST:

    12th:

Slasher: Flesh & Blood (SHUDDER) - A wealthy, dysfunctional family gathers for a reunion on a secluded island only to learn they’ll be pitted against one another in a cruel game of life and death, all while being stalked by a mysterious masked killer. Nothing is what it seems and no one is safe as the tension – and body count – ratchets up.
The first two episodes will premiere on Thursday, August 12th, followed by new episodes weekly. Like the previous seasons, there are 8 episodes total.

Candyman (Theatrical) - For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright, move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

I didn't intend to but I checked out about an hour and a half of the new American Horror Story. They showed two episodes on the same night last week. It was pretty good. Since it's a short season and two parts, I'll wait for the whole thing to watch in October. I hope they will put the other series On Demand since I stopped watching at the Freak Show season.

I hope them splitting up the season with two shorter stories, means that the stories won't loose steam in the second half, like the previous ones.

Yeah I think that's why I stopped watching these. They would start off really well. Then kind of fall apart.

I caught "The Night House" at the theaters last night. I really liked the trailer.

It was OK. Rather slow at times but the acting was top notch.....everything about the production was excellent and the story itself kept you guessing until the end. Aside from a jump scare or two, not much to be said about the "horror" aspects of the movie.

A few ass clowns showed up to the theater over an hour into the movie and didn't shut the fuck up for the duration. Fucking mutants must have been raised by wolves I tell ya

Where I am summer left without a dry spell so it looks like a swamp jungle here, so my Kananga water really resonates when I wear it lately. The season begins anew, but lately when I kick my lid open at the crack of dusk I find myself less inclined to watch new videos purchased but as of late indulging in older fare, such as The Frozen Dead, The Twonky, and Jess Franco's Sex is Crazy. The concord grape arbors are thriving, covering the old pine trees completely now by the high cornfield across the driveway, and the tribe of crows that are drawn to it sing all day long. Last week I found one with a broken wing in the driveway and nested it on my porch in a box of old socks placed in a corner where the front columns are overgrown with elderberry bushes and virginia creeper. Sadly it died overnight, but I had committed to take care of it like a regular Mrs. Baylock. The weather has been driving sideways rains on weekends, yet becomes crisper with night breezes that blow the windchimes, and on still nights the howling has returned from the woods. The black walnut trees are just about to be ready to harvest, and the remains of the dead trees here (some are over four feet around) are just about to lose their birds for the winter. I treated myself to the same purchases I would get at conventions I won't be attending, and am sitting out the plague this year with old films, books, and 70s periodicals exchanged back and forth with friends in my parked car in the weeds. That way we have little contact, it is there anytime, and with the plague continuing we can all partake in what I call our "electric Decameron". I realise this is a bit off the path and in the shrubs, but hopefully a bit of atmosphere for those in sunnier climes to engage in a bit of the picaresque. Now to light the candles earlier and listen to the last of the peepers while the windows still can be opened. Perhaps this is the year I will get around to Proust...
And as always, I give thanks for this list.
