Okay, it may depend on price, but that just about makes the set an instant buy. I did a fair bit of hunting to get the Brazilian disk, because it was the only non-bootleg way of getting this. An upgrade for this weird forgotten classic will be quite welcome.

Kinda surprised they didn't try to get Sveto mesto (1990) — which is a truly creepy film. It's also based from the VIY story, but I actually liked it far more than the earlier VIY movie. It's not "comedic" in tone... great music score too.

    The same director as Leptirica.

I got the box set but didn't really feel like all of crap that comes with the bundle--the box will take up enough space as it is, and I only really want the movies anyway.

Yeah, the bundle is an easy pass. With the extra shipping cost it's $64 extra. You can easily buy the Penda's Fen Sourcebook separately, and the melamine "plate" is basically a laminate. The oracle deck and map are cool looking, but not at that price.

Did they remove Richard Stanley's interview from the Viy disc, or are they just not promoting it?

That's quite a bit for a whole lot of films I've never heard of. I appreciate that severin seems to be curating these extravagant box sets targeting very specific niche interests (like the Milligan, or Adamson sets, or the Christopher Lee Euro set) but so far I haven't found myself fitting into any of those niches. I'm sure it will happen eventually and I'll be blown away. But this is another one that I can easily pass on.

I'll bet they removed it... anything to do with Richard Stanley is currently toxic and I'm pretty Severin stated they wouldn't be releasing anything of his in the future.

Viy is a solid film but a curious include, given it has had a couple good releases already on blu. I'd rather they have slotted another film in its place that isn't so readily available.

I'm guessing it was one more item they could include to justify the price tag without incurring any extra production cost on their end.

Interesting tidbit - Cruel Jaws is still available for streaming/rent/ownership though Apple TV, Prime Video, Plex and Tubi.

Is it just taking them longer to take that down, or is it really a rights issue with another distributer?

Blood for dracula comparisons are up.

    https://caps-a-holic.com/c_list.php?c=6171

I've only had a chance so far to view on a phone but from whst I've seen there is a massive difference in colour between Severin's blu and 4k? Maybe it's the old disc? Maybe they didn't re-do the blu.

Colourwise the shock blu and the severin 4k look close, I'll check this all on my computer shortly and see if anything changes.
