I just read in Twitter... Sad news, indeed. A greatest sci-fi and horror writer leaves us at the age of 87 :(

God Dammit. I Am Legend is my favorite book of all time. Rest easy, sir. Thank you for sharing your incomparable imagination.

I've read some of his other stuff, but not I Am Legend. I need to fix that. Sad to hear he's gone. A great writer. RIP.

A huge loss. He was one of the all time greats in horror fiction and it's a bit emptier place now without him. RIP

There is no Twilight Zone or Night of the Living Dead without him. One of the true geniuses this planet has ever seen. May he rest in peace.

Truly a great writer, I especially enjoyed his Poe screenplays. He accomplished the impossible in putting together a story worthy of the name Poe. It's talent like that which will keep Matheson's name in league with Poe.

Toss in Duel while you're at it. When Spielberg was given the chance to jump from TV show director to TV movie director, it was this Matheson penned gem that shined bright in what was an otherwise forgettable 4 film contract for Spielberg. And in no small amount it was the strength of Duel that planted him in the director's chair for Jaws. The rest, as they say, is history.

A masterful writer of both book and script, his works were the launch pads of several Hollywood legends' careers. He would have achieved honored status merely for keeping up to the quality bar of Rod Serling for the Twilight Zone, but the epics started well before and continued long after.

Hell House is an all time classic haunted house story and the book is infinitely better than the film, which was also pretty good.

Richard Matheson has inspired countless others with his brilliant work. Really love the books I Am Legend and Hell House. Some terrific writing seen on both the small & big screen. I'd like to mention The Twilight Zone, The Pit & the Pendulum, The Devil Rides Out, Night Gallery, the two Kolchak films (Night Stalker & Night Strangler)...I could go on & on.

Rest in peace to an icon.
