looks like i'll have to double dip

Here's a great one: Universal has just set John Landis' An American Werewolf in London: Full Moon Edition for DVD and Blu-ray release on 9/15 (SRP $19.98 and $26.98). The Blu-ray is a loaded BD-50, while the DVD is a 2-disc set. Extras will include two completely new bonus features: The 100-minute Beware the Moon retrospective documentary (featuring Landis and Rick Baker) and the I Walked with a Werewolf featurette. You'll also get the previously released features, including audio commentary with cast members David Naughton and Griffin Dunne, 4 featurettes (Making An American Werewolf in London: An Original Featurette, An Interview with John Landis, Make-up Artist Rick Baker on An American Werewolf in London and Casting of the Hand), outtakes, storyboards and a photo montage. The Blu-ray will also feature BD-Live access. Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 on DVD and DTS-HD MA 5.1 on Blu-ray.

Glad to see not only did they include all the previous extras (including the trailers and photo gallery which a lot of companies like to leave off!) but they added some, including the 100 min. documentary! This is how Blu Rays should be done, and what I expected from the format from the beginning.

While I would like to check out the documentary, I already have the HD-DVD so I won't be springing for it. Good to see Universal going all out on the release.

There's an announcement on the blu-ray.com site that says Landis supervised the transfer and he said the film looks amazing. No doubt this has been restored. The old DVD was from like, what? 2001?

Day one purchase for me. An American Werewolf in London is quite possibly the best horror film made in the '80s (aside from maybe, say, The Shining).

  14. Good to hear that it's gonna be struc from a new High-Definition master of it. The film was in dire need of the new & improved HD treatment. As for me: Yeah, it's a classic of the decade. Not really my favorite, but it's in the top twenty of the big '80s seminal classics of that decade though, and I'll immdiately pre-order it to save a few bucks on Amazon. Was so glad I cought this thread today. I guess some anniversary of the film is a comin' right around the corner.

Actually it's to tie in with the remake of The Wolf Man coming out in theaters. But still, I'll take that over not getting a new AWIL DVD!

  16. Sweet, I figured it migh be to tie-in with somethin' or another. And I agree: I'll take a new AWIL DVD any day of the week, month or year :D

Well, I'm on it if it has a new transfer, even though I have the DVD and HD-DVD (which was like $2.99 so I'll live).

It's a definite buy from me, one of my favourite films ever. Can't wait.
Theres also footage of Landis talking about it on youtube saying it looks so good and how he was worried the transformation scene may look worse but now it looks even better! if thats possible.

I'm happy with the $3.99 HD-DVD since the movie's not a huge favorite or anything. It's got some classic scenes, but that ending is still a mess. I echo the sentiments on wanting Universal to give Army of Darkness the same lavish treatment.
